A strong earthquake hit New Zealand towards the end of July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no casualties or destruction were reported so far. In California, a minor 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the day before. Heavy aftershocks continue to strike Venezuela after the country’s recent major quakes. Many people are trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams work nonstop. PAHO says hospitals need help now to manage further emergencies.
